Edmondson for
Congress
P.O. Box 751
Smyrna, TN 37167
From the candidate:
To Tennessee Home Educators,
My name is Steve Edmondson and I am
running a write-in campaign to get the Republican nomination in the 6th
Congressional district. My wife, Melissa, and I have home educated our
children from the beginning. Before we even married we had determined that
we wanted to educate our children at home. We firmly believe that God has
entrusted us with the responsibility to make sure that our children are
trained properly and instructed with a Christian worldview. I realize,
however, that home education is not for everyone, but if parents are able
and willing I believe it is the best possible choice to make.
It is my belief that the
upbringing and education of children is a fundamental right of parents and
should not be infringed upon by government without extraordinary
circumstances of abuse or neglect. I also believe that those who choose to
educate their children outside of the public should receive tax credits or
at minimum tax deductions. Furthermore, I will fight to make sure federal
requirements and benchmarks are never applied to children that are home
educated. In fact I believe that the role of the federal government in
setting education policy should be reduced and eventually eliminated.
We have 5 children, 4 of
which will be of school age this year. We have twin girls that are 12,
another daughter that is 6, and two sons ages 10 and 4. I will be educating
the children for the fourth year after having taught in public high schools
for 18 years previously. Melissa is currently working outside the home as a
physical therapist. If I am elected to Congress she will resume her role in
educating the children.

This from the candidate's wife:
In the 6th District U.S. Congressional race there is
not a candidate on the ballot for the Republican primary, but my husband,
Steve Edmondson, is running a write-in campaign to get on the ballot for
November.
Steve has homeschooled our children for the past 3
years after teaching and coaching in public schools for 18 years. If you
want to know more about Steve, he has a web site at
Edmondson4Congress.com.
There is a page on the site that gives instructions for write-in voting.
Because of the way the General Assembly has set the laws it is very
difficult for a write-in candidate to get the nomination even if he is
unopposed, as Steve is. Steve has to get 5% of registered voters in the
district to vote for him, which will probably be around 23,000 votes. This
is all explained in detail on the web site as well.
Steve needs help getting the word out so if you like
what you read please tell others and contact Steve if you would like to help
with the campaign.
