News, Opinions & Research
Staying current
on
news
about homeschooling and education issues is very important. I believe it
wise to understand the times in order to be prepared to defend our
territory. While homeschooling is legal in every state of our Union there
are still pockets of resistance and misunderstanding. Knowing where they are
and their causes are important tools for maintaining our own freedoms.
There are several resources I recommend.
- Every Tennessee homeschooling family should be
on one of these two lists:
-
TnHomeEd e-lists
The first list is a general support group for homeschooling
Tennesseans. It's also the first place I post legislative information
and news stories I feel are valuable. You could wait for your phone tree
or monthly newsletter or the next weekly meeting--or you could get
important information in a timely manner.
The second list is for chatting, for discussions regarding issues
that are not directly homeschooling or education. A place you can get to
know one another at a different level, send those funny forwards, ask
for easy dinner recipes...
-
Tennessee Homeschool Legislation
list is the second (by nano-seconds) place I post homeschooling
legislative information I become aware of.
- the NHEN-News is the homeschooling news
gleaning list for the National Home Education Network. If you'd like to
subscribe here's the place to do so:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/NHEN-Announce
NHEN also hosts extensive message boards about current
legislative events and hot homeschooling topics. You can access those at
http://NHEN.org/forum.
- Home Education Magazine's News & commentary "is
a weekly report on what's happening in the world of homeschooling. Gleanings
from the news media, accolades and pans, hot discussions, legal and
legislative successes and problems - are all fair game, and gathered in one
column for your convenience.

- And HSLDA's E-lert service is also
valuable. You don't have to be a member of HSLDA to subscribe. Send a
request to subscribe to
subscribe@hslda.org.

opinions everyone's got one--most of us anyway. In this section you'll
find brief snips and links to those opinions and other useful articles. You'll
also find a new section entitled
"Kay Comments" where Kay Brooks,
TnHomeEd owner, 9 year homeschooling mom and opinionated woman of the '00's,
shares what's on her mind.
Research
is part of what makes homeschooling news. You'll find links to and snips for
this important information.
