One of the elements homeschoolers should consider before they
cast their vote is how the candidate feels about homeschooling, school choice
and education in general. From now to election time, this page will be a place
to come and check on candidate positions.
You might want to start by inserting a candidate's name in the
search engine for this site. As legislation has passed
through the Tennessee legislature we've kept track of who spoke and voted for
homeschooling freedoms and who did not.
On the left margin you will find the names of candidates which are linked to
pages that contain comments made by them, information from their websites or
information on their voting record in regard to homeschooling issues along with
any endorsements by homeschoolers. Only current candidates appear in that left
margin. Former candidates can be found via the search page.
You are encouraged to provide candidate comments and citations for inclusion in
this section of TnHomeEd.com.
Unlike many homeschool organizations TnHomeEd.com is privately held and so not
subject to prohibitions placed upon non-profit organizations by the IRS in
regard to political activities. As a result TnHomeEd.com is free to name names
and endorse candidates. The following candidates have shown themselves to be
supporters of homeschooling and education choice. No one should assume that
TnHomeEd.com's endorsements reflect the opinion of the diverse homeschooling
community.
President
US Senator
Lamar Alexander
Bob Corker
US Representative
District 5:
Vijay Kumar (Republican Primary)
District 6: Steve Edmondson (Republican
Primary: you'll need to write-in his name) Homeschooling family
District 7: Marsha Blackburn
(Republican Primary)
I am aware that Tom Leatherwood, Blackburn's Republican Primary opponent,
is a homeschooling father and former Tennessee legislator who came to our
aid years ago. However, when I weigh Blackburn's consistent support of
homeschooling to date and her seniority and experience in the Congress I
find she is already well placed and will be the stronger advocate for
homeschoolers.
State Senator
District 20: David Hall,
